Mrs. Cynthia Demetria Knowlin Grant, also known as "Metrie" to family, was born February 22, 1958 in Georgetown, South Carolina.  Mrs. Grant attended school in Georgetown, graduating from Andrews High School and later received her Bachelors in Sociology from Voorhees College in Denmark, SC. Mrs. Grant was very passionate about education for both students, parents and caretakers.  Her community approach to education was demonstrated through the following: 

  • Development of workshops and sessions focused on both youth and caretaker education 

  • Caretaker education initiatives focused on providing information to grandparents raising their grandchildren 

  • Creation of initiatives which enhanced youth and the adult who were responsible for preparing them for school

  • Specifically, trainings gave caretakers facts about primary and alternative learning techniques to enhance student learning  

Mrs. Grant made a professional and personal commitment to the advancement of  of education in her community. She was an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated,  and also a dedicated member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, in the Sampit Community of Georgetown, South Carolina.
